One gorgeous spring morning not long after I arrived in Paris earlier this month for my spring photography sessions, I met Emily and her folks at Jardin des Plantes in the 5th arrondisement in Paris for Emily’s annual photography session with her family. Each year Emily’s mom chooses a different location around Paris. Somewhere that has been a big part of Emily’s life in the past year. I LOVE this idea as it’s such a great keepsake of Emily as she grows and also what she has done during that year. So I was pretty chuffed to hear that this year we were going to have a play at the Jardin des Plantes.
I’ve known Emily since she was one. So it’s great to see her each year and see how much she has grown and matured.
It was lovely to see her pick flowers for both her folks….
We had some fun running around ….
Even her beloved soft toy Doudou had a little play ….
And I have to confess I had a great time myself hearing what Heather, Paul & Emily had been up to.
How could you not LOVE this little girl and her exuberance for life!
What a lot of fun we had together.
Emily’s dad is taking Emily on a walking tour of Europe which is pretty incredible and that day they were setting off for Germany for a few days.
After our photo session we had an unwind (and cool off) in the Museum where Emily & her Mom regularly come to see all the skeletons. And what better place for Emily to come to visit and have a little draw in her sketch pad.
Heather & Paul, thanks for a great morning. Hope you like the sneak peek and I’ll be sharing the photos of Emily with you all really soon.

Gill - Awwwwww, she’s pretty cute! I love the skeletons especially since I have a bit of background on that one…
Great photos Sarah! Getting excited!
Heather D-W - Sarah, once again these are amazing. The last one has nailed it, I think – it’s exactly right and sums up this year in Emily’s life. You have captured her again. Dancing with reckless abandon, her polka-dotted leggings and chucks hiding underneath her “dress that spins”. Taking time to study the skeletons (over and over and over…). Hard to believe it was such a cold morning (and I get vertigo just looking at that family shot, btw) and we weren’t sure about the location. They’re fantastic. Thank you so much for capturing this magic for us, again and again.
Andria - You do have a beautiful subject, and your photos are amazing! Every picture is precious. Emily is so cute in her white dress and looks great against the backdrop of the Jardin. Hearing Heather’s stories about Emily’s fascination with the skeletons is perfectly captured in the last picture.
Lily - Oh! Well! I must say, your work is ever impressive, as always. Thanks in part to your portraits, I’ve been able to see Emily grow up since she was 10 mos. old, which is when I had the Honour of meeting her and her family. Love, love, LOVE the one of her on her sketch pad, and second to that, the one with her precious doux-doux. You ability to capture her Spirit and in such active moments is incredible. The family shot is also quite lovely and natural.
Dessie - As always, the pictures are fantastic! You had such a gorgeous day for outdoor shots. I love the choice of shoes and dress. And the last shot is an exact mini-Heather!
Jacki - Loved how you captured Emily’s spunk because that girl certainly has it! We know Emily’s family in real life and love the beautiful pictures you’ve taken of her as she’s grown up in Paris.
Lise Charlebois-Ludot - Love these photos of Emily, especially the one showing her as a budding paleontologist!
Jennifer Hart - I love all of them but I have to say, I am SO happy you have that last picture of her inside the museum. That place is so special for Emily and will be a fond memory for her to treasure as she grows up and finds herself no longer living in Paris. Wonderful photos of a great little family. Well done, Sarah.
Jennifer Walsh - Lovely photos of a daring little girl!
What I like best is that her parents let Emily be herself, it makes the photos so much more precious !
Love the last photo.
Dynah Duncan-White - Sarah, your pictures of Emily (my niece) are always amazing, and this year is no exception. I particularly love #4 because I feel like she’s just let go and happy from the inside out
The last candid shot of course is great because it shows her newest passion but my favorite portrait each is the one that seems to capture her “little light inside”.
Thank you so much for allowing to watch Em grow year by year.
Superbe travail.
Kimberly - Gorgeous! You’ve captured Emily’s beauty and amazing spirit so perfectly. I love them all, but the last one is truly my favorite. Beautiful photography!
Stephen R - I love the laughing close up.
Mehgan - All of these pictures are so beautiful! How is a person supposed to choose?
Nick Gomes - Wow, I love that family picture. I think it’s the best family photo the D-W clan has ever taken!
